Whether we are team building or working hard to overcome challenges, atĀ Outsource Marketing we make it a priority to have fun. An uplifting experience is a key to success in many aspects of life. That’s why I have chosen First Descents as the final recipient of ourĀ 20th Anniversary #YearOfGratitude.
Cancer is the leading disease-related cause of death in young adults. With approximately 70,000 new diagnoses annually, young adults comprise the fastest-growing and most underserved oncology age demographic.
First Descents addresses what the National Cancer Institute identifies as a major determinant of long-term survivorship health: ongoing psychosocial supportive care.
Founded in 2001 by professional kayaker, Brad Ludden, First Descents has become the recognized leader in outdoor experiential programming. Through hosting outdoor adventures, skills development, and local adventure communities, First Descents improves the long-term survivorship of young adults impacted by cancer.
Participants experience free outdoor adventure programs that empower them to climb, paddle, and surf beyond their diagnosis, reclaim their lives, and connect with others doing the same.
I had the pleasure of working with Brad and the First Descents team while helping host the Mountain Games event in Vail, Colorado. I saw firsthand the powerful and uplifting impact that the organization had on both its participants and volunteers. Since then, I’ve made a point to experience my own first descents through trying new adventure sports or outdoor activities every year. I’ve found it acts as a refresh button whenever I need to find motivation or reconnect with nature. The experience and camaraderie can have a transformative effect on both the mind and body.
We encourage you to make fun a priority and to take your own first descent. First Descents is looking for volunteers nationwide. Get involved or make a donation on their website www.firstdescents.org.
