Liberty Filmore, Cart Whisperer

By March 4, 2008June 29th, 2021One Comment

Liberty Filmore can’t understand it:

You know, I don’t know what it is in a person…make ’em just…up and abandon a perfectly good shopping cart.

You see, Filmore is a cart whisperer. He cares. And because he cares, he spends his time searching for abandoned carts and then helping find their way back home.

With nearly 900,000 views since February 24th, the Liberty Filmore character is well on his way to becoming a YouTube celebrity.

The video is part of a viral campaign meant to push traffic to NoMoreAbandonedCarts.com.

Verisign and agency McCann Erickson are behind the campaign but you’ll be hard pressed to figure that out without googling it. Ultimately, Verisign wanted to draw attention to the fact that many e-commerce shopping carts are abandoned when consumers lose trust in an online store’s security.

Entertaining, but it’s too early to tell whether it will help Verisign achieve it’s business goals. Like many virals, the comments are short and positive, but don’t seem to relate much to Verisign’s mission. One of my favorites was from XCompton46X:

NICE. I can talk to abandoned recliners like that.

So what do you think? Responsible or not?

  • I stumbled upon the site. Perhaps they did too good a job of hiding their intent. I struck me as clever, but pointless; it didn’t take me anywhere.

I believe you can entertain people and share the joke. And be much more likely to create the understanding in your audience you seek.

I take my hat off to Verisign for trying. I hope their ad budget is a big one becuase these dollars got wasted.
