I’m a fan of Jim Collins, author of business classics Built to Last and Good to Great.
One of the key concepts in Good to Great is the Hedgehog Concept:
Those who built the good-to-great companies were, to one degree or another, hedgehogs. They used their hedgehog nature to drive toward what we came to call a Hedgehog Concept for their companies.
Those who led the comparison companies tended to be foxes, never gaining the clarifying advantage of a Hedgehog Concept, being instead scattered, diffused, and inconsistent.
We’re meeting this morning to work on the Hedgehog Concept for Outsource Marketing. Since Good to Great companies typically take years to determine what their Hedgehog Concept is, it’s the beginning of a long journey.
I doubt we’ll get to our BHAG tomorrow, but we’re all excited about getting started.
Wish us luck.
So, do you have a BHAG?
