Don’t let the ponytails fool you

When I first started helping coach my daughter Brooke’s Little League t-ball team (she was the only girl), I was just looking to spend more quality time with her outdoors. Little did I know I’d soon be immersed in the wild world of fastpitch softball and experiencing first hand the benefits the sport can have on girls and young women.

After a few years of Little League, Brooke decided she wanted a greater challenge and joined the 10U Flame Fastpitch team. The work was harder, the bonds between players stronger and practice was nearly year round. Thousands of hours of work and a few hundred games later, my daughter is now playing her first year of 14U softball.

The value of youth sports for girls and young women have been well documented: Athletes aren’t just healthier, they do better in school, learn how to be a part of team, have greater self-confidence, and experience higher states of psychological well being, among other benefits.

On Brooke’s team, we focus on the fundamentals and like to win as much as the next team, but consider softball the platform for life learning. While we preach the tenets of Coach John Wooden’s Pyramid of Successyou can tell by the photo above we have fun working hard.

For our 20th Anniversary, Outsource Marketing has been proud to donate branding support as well as development, design and copywriting work for the Flame Fastpitch website. For the 14U Red team, we’ve funded the team’s year-long hitting club and made a donation to help defray costs for families.

If you’d like to help develop young women that will win at life, please consider selecting Flame Fastpitch as your recipient when you shop on Amazon Smile.
